OUR STORY

It all started with a pile of rocks...

Spencer and Caleigh of Green Desert Farm met in college and married shortly after graduation. Originally residing in Oregon, an economic downturn in 2023 presented the couple with the opportunity to pursue their dreams of independent living and an agricultural lifestyle.

In purchasing Green Desert Farm, a portion of the property was considered unusable and covered with lava rock and overgrown trees. Determined to utilize the land to the fullest extent, the pair decided that goats were best suited to reside in that area of the property. After several months of work to restructure and re-fence the farm as a whole, Green Desert Farm was formed in 2024!

Spencer and Caleigh continue to work diligently on the farm, and strive to produce the highest quality farm-fresh products from healthy and happy animals. Along with goats, Green Desert Farm is also home to a horse, several chickens, two cats, and two bearded dragons.

Green Desert FAQ

Why are your products so expensive?

Green Desert is a small, family-run farm; there are no employees other than the owners. We care deeply about the welfare of our animals, and only sell the highest quality products. If a product's quality isn't high enough to where we would use or consume it ourselves, we don't make it available to the public.

Part of maintaining that quality and providing the best possible care for our animals includes buying premium feed, keeping them as comfortable as possible throughout the year with fresh and clean bedding, maintaining their health with regular vet appointments, providing supplements, abiding by local and state regulations and paying the associated fees, and more. Additionally, our costs are still typically less than average grocery store prices in our local area.

Are your eggs free-range, non-GMO, soy-free, etc.?

In short - no.

Our chickens have 24/7 access to their chicken coop (cleaned weekly) and a private, outdoor, uncovered run which is approximately 20' X 30'. Our chickens are kept separately from our goats and other livestock to help maintain cleanliness of the farm and health of all animals that reside at Green Desert.

Our chickens are fed a diet of non-medicated layer crumble feed from our local feed store, and fruits or veggies from the farm as the season allows. They also occasionally get chicken-safe kitchen scraps.

We do not labels our products as "organic", "non-GMO", etc.

Is your goat milk free-range, non-GMO, soy-free, etc.?

In short - no.

Our goats are housed in a series of private pastures, and have access to grass and forage year-round. In addition to this, they are fed a diet of alfalfa hay (kept covered and dry throughout the year), black oil sunflower seeds, and the does get a small helping of grain in the evenings. They also have 24/7 access to minerals, and receive an additional selenium supplement every 6 weeks.

We vaccinate our goats 4 and 8 weeks of age for CD&T, and then annually, as we'd prefer that our animals don't contract tetanus or other preventable diseases. None of our animals are raised with hormones.

We do not labels our products as "organic", "non-GMO", etc.

What makes Green Desert different?

Our philosophy is simple - the more effort and care you put in to something, the higher quality you'll receive out of it!

We are not a large-scale operation. Every jar of milk, batch of soap, carton of eggs, and bundle of fruit is hand-packaged - if it's not something the owners would use or consume themselves, it isn't sold to the public.

Our goats are housed in such a way that their milk is produced at a superior quality, and their exemplary diet contributes to the creamy and delicious taste of their milk. The taste of an animal's milk can depend on their environment, what they eat, and more. With the best housing, premium feed, and superior care, we're able to provide the best-tasting and highest-quality product possible!
